Press Release: Imsys AB partners with ShortLink AB to develop the next generation of edge/AI microprocessors

Karlstad, 13 December 2022. Imsys AB and ShortLink AB work together in designing the next generation IM4000 microprocessor family.

ShortLink AB is working with Imsys to assist in the development of their next generation microprocessor IM4000. Imsys has over 40 years of experience in custom microprocessors which has traditionally been used in highly specialized applications. The advent of edge/AI computing has opened a window to a much larger applicable market for the technology.

Imsys has selected ShortLink AB as a key partner to develop the IM4000, an evolution of IM3000. This small new processor is designed for high performance, has dual cores, modern memory interface, and on-chip main memory.  IM4000 is available as a Silicon IP for SoC addressing IoT and Edge applications.

This new processor family will launch before the New Year and the joint teams are currently finalizing the last testing.

“With the help of ShortLink AB, we are able to significantly improve our Silicon IP microprocessor designs for the evolving edge/AI market and speed up our time to market. They have been excellent in providing flexible development support depending on our current needs, from a few senior systems engineers to a larger group of RTL implementation engineers and ASIC implementation experts.”

– Jonas Wӕrn, CEO Imsys AB

August Pansell, chairman of the board at ShortLink continues: “We are very excited to be working with Imsys. It’s exceedingly rare to have two Swedish deep-tech semiconductor companies with a combined ASIC development heritage of almost 70 years working together to put a unique microprocessor on the market. We often talk about the benefits of local sourcing and having independent access to technology. In this case the entire microprocessor is designed in Sweden: instruction set architecture, software development tools, ASIC implementation and support.”
